My hope with this blog is to create a community of like minded people. Business owners, creatives, or those who dream of owning their own business one day. A place to share ideas, successes, failures, resources, and mix it with a decent dosage of swearing since running a business can be fucking frustrating. So, you might be asking yourself, 'who the fuck is this girl and what the fuck does she know?'

I'm can't say that I know anything revolutionary. I'm not a business major and I'm not the most successful person in my field by any means but then you also have to consider what success means to you. I don't have all the money to buy a million dollar mansion and go on vacation all the time but success to me is getting to travel often, exploring near and far. Having the time and flexibility to be spontaneous in my life. Having time to spend with my loved ones and doing something that I am passionate about while helping other discover and follow their own passions.

Over the last decade, I have built up my photography business and four years ago, I made the switch from a blood sucking day job to full-time freelancer! In that time I have taken business course, read a billion articles, met with mentors. I have had lots of successes such as receiving $9,000 in free grant money, completing a successful Kickstarter, self-publishing a book, and securing a free loaner car from a major car company so I could travel the country. With those successes have also come many tears from stress, the fear of failing, and plenty of self doubt. That is the ups and downs of running a business.

So, no, I don't know everything but I have developed a lot of random knowledge about running a business. Knowledge that I want to share with others to help them follow their dreams. And hopefully, it isn't a one sided thing. I want to learn from you, too. Because, together we can all be stronger.

So, now that you know why this is here, lets get to some useful information. Here is how I got $9,000 in free money for my business.

Lindsey Rickert

Portland, OR, United States of America

I turned to photography at a young age as a way to manipulate the world in front of me into endless possibilities. It remained a hobby for several years until I decided to run away from the snow in Iowa and towards the rain in Portland, OR. While I was inspired by film makers and my surroundings, I had a tendency to pick apart single frames and freeze them. My memory wasn't a movie playing back in my head, it was a series of still images that created a narrative. This translates into my work through the use of lighting and props that build a scene and create a story. When I am not taking pictures, I spend my time roller skating, playing with my puppy Charlie Von Shitbird (he is very sophisticated), spending time with my snake Vans, embarking on capers with my girlfriends, messing around with special fx makeup, and exploring the great Pacific Northwest and all it has to offer. The best thing about my job is getting to meet a variety of people. No to shoots are the same and I thrive on getting to know my clients and collaborating with them to create truly unique and bold images that fit their needs. Whether it be wedding photography, family portraits, small business needs, or you simply want a kick ass original portrait. If you are looking for a creative experience that will not only boost your confidence but create a lasting memory then lets make it happen!
