In 2018, collage artist Francesca Berrini and photographer Lindsey Rickert were awarded Atlas Obscura's Fellowship of Highway 95. They were to travel Nevada’s stretch of Highway 95 from Las Vegas to Reno, otherwise known as “Free-Range Art Highway,” and create a collaborative body of work based on their experiences and discoveries. The end result became a series of impossible postcards combining photography, collage and illustration to create hallucinatory dreamscapes that compress time, space and memory while pushing the limits of reality.
You can learn more about this series by reading Elizabeth Horkley’s, of Atlas Obscura, detailed four part blog documenting our journey and artwork.
Additional images were taken on 35mm film and soaked in various water sources collected along the way. The chemical reaction of various elements found with the water with the film results in a dream set of landscapes.
